Search visibility for an independent clothing brand

A clothing catalogue is the hardest kind of SEO problem hiding as the easiest. Dozens of near-identical products, descriptions written for the lookbook rather than the search box, and an internal link structure that quietly rotted as lines sold out.

What it does

A product catalogue that search engines could crawl but not understand, fixed product by product, plus the broken links that were bleeding the site’s authority.

The catalogue, product by product

There is no shortcut on a product catalogue. The work is the catalogue.

  • Titles and meta descriptions rewritten across the product range
  • Written to be worth clicking, not just to contain the keyword
  • Near-duplicate products differentiated so they stop competing with each other

Fixing what was leaking

Broken links inside a shop are a slow puncture: nothing dramatic, steadily worse.

  • Full crawl to find internal links pointing at pages that no longer exist
  • Sold-out and retired lines handled deliberately rather than left to 404
  • Re-crawled afterwards to confirm the fixes held

Measured from a baseline

Work that cannot be measured cannot be defended when the invoice arrives.

  • Search console baseline captured before any changes were made
  • Reporting on the queries the brand can realistically win
  • Paid social run as a test alongside, with its own numbers

The hard parts

The problems that decided how this was built. They are the reason it works the way it does rather than the obvious way.

Rewriting a whole catalogue without flattening the brand

The problem

The efficient way to rewrite a catalogue this size is a template. The result reads like a template, which for a brand whose whole proposition is not being generic is worse than the original problem.

What we did

The structure was systematic and the writing was not. Every product got the same technical treatment, and the copy was written to sound like the brand rather than like an SEO exercise.

The result

A catalogue that search engines can read, in a voice the brand still recognises as its own.

We don’t publish screenshots, logos or client names for this work. Much of it runs inside a business and handles sensitive data, so we describe what was built rather than who it was built for. We’re happy to walk through the detail on a call.

Every build on this page started as a workflow that off-the-shelf software nearly handled. Tell us where the gap is and we’ll scope what it takes to close it.
